The 2017 European Judo Championships will take place in Warsaw, Poland. In a week time, 400 athletes from 42 countries will be competing at the Torwar Arena. Poland hosted European Judo Championships at two occasions before, in Gdansk (1994) and Wroclaw (2000). In 2007, Warsaw organised the Europeans for the Open Category.
Amongst the hundreds of athletes, we will see 13 Rio 2016 Olympic medallists on stage. Six athletes will have the opportunity to defend their European title, whilst Charline VAN SNICK (BEL) and Varlam LIPARTELIANI (GEO) will have the opportunity to yet again excel, yet this time, a weight division above. The individual competition will be spread across three days, whilst the team event will close the show on the fourth and final day. The President of the Polish Judo Association, Mr Jacek Zawadka, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming event,
“It is a great pleasure to welcome co-organisers, coaches, athletes and audience to the European Judo Championships in Warsaw. For the first-time Warsaw has been offered the opportunity to contribute to organisation of the 2017 European Judo Championships, which will be held under the Honorary Patronage of the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. Together, with the European Judo Union, we spared no effort to organise this great event. On behalf of the Polish Judo Association, I would like to welcome all of you to this most important tournament in Europe that is going take place in Torwar Hall in Warsaw.”
The draw will take place on Wednesday, 19th of April at 16.00 (CET) and it will be streamed live via Facebook. The event will be live streamed via our website.
