Today in the history: 15 NovemberToday, the 15th in 1975 Tengiz Khubuluri (Soviet Union) won his first European junior championship title in Turku Finland. Khubuluri won the senior light heavyweight title in 1976 and 1979 and won the world championships of 1979 and 1981. His great rival at this weight was Robert Van de Walle of Belgium who was world silver medallist in ’79 and ’81 but beat Khubuluri for the 1980 Olympic title in Moscow.

In the picture you see Robert Van de Walle and Tengiz Khubuluri reunited at the 2009 World Junior Championships.

Patrick Reiter (AUT) becomes world military champion in The Netherlands today in 2000. It was his last international result after a glamorous career with the European title in 1995 and eight A-tournament wins from 1993-2000.
