At the Fukuoka Tournament in Japan 1996, Ryoko Tani (pictured) beat Kayo Kitada in the U48 final. Kie Kusakabe beat Noriko Mogi U57kg. Noriko Anno is superior at U78kg. Maki Tsukada is defeated by Chinese Xueying Jia. Ulla Werbouck (BEL) is the only European winner.
Today in 1985 the Fukuoka women’s tournament European women were more successful. Karen Briggs U48 (GBR) , Ann Hughes (GBR) U57, Gabi Ritschel (FRG) U61, Cristina Fiorentini (ITA) U66, Regina Sigmund (FRG) U72 and Irene de Kok (NED) open are the winners.
Today in 1990 the British Trials were held in London. Billy Cusack, Kerrith Brown and Nick Kokotaylo add more titles to their impressive list. In the women’s categories, Elise Summers and Josephine Horton are well known winners, but these trials of 1990 are filled with unpredictable incidents.
Japanese Sisters Masae (U70) and Yoshie (U63) Ueno both win the Jigoro Kano Cup in Tokyo in 2007.
