TOP-PLAYER: TUSHISHVILI TAKES OVER

World Ranking #1: +100kg

With a turbulent 2017 World Championships in Bucharest, TUSHISHVILI was ready to make up for it in 2018. In 2017, the Georgian #1 narrowly lost out to Teddy RINER (FRA), the spectators on the edge of their seats, waiting for a potentially monumental score against the Frenchman. Unfortunately it was not TUSHISHVILI’s day and he had an unfortunate bronze medal contest forcing him to settle for the fifth place.

The tides had changed in 2018 as he secured two Grand Prix gold medals in Tbilisi and Zagreb. The end of the year saw him retain his Masters title, however the true glory came in the form of his World Championships title in Baku. In the previous year he found success in the Baku Grand Slam with a gold medal, the location bringing good feeling and confidence.

Guram TUSHISHVILI holds the largest lead in the WRL with 2731 points ahead of the -100kg World and Olympic Champion, Lukas Krpalek (CZE).
