WORLD JUDO DAY: STRONG TOGETHER, STRONG APART

WORLD JUDO DAY: STRONG TOGETHER, STRONG APART

The 2020 World Judo Day will be celebrated on the 28th of October with the theme, ‘Strong Together’.

As a judo family, we know how important global cooperation and unification is in sport, it brings us together for a shared purpose. Usually we would have a whole twelve months of tournaments, family camps, a judo festival and judo school events to reflect on, however this year is very different.

It is undisputed that together we are strong, but this year has allowed us to demonstrate that we are equally as strong when we are apart. When the pandemic struck Italy, it was difficult for the rest of the continent to comprehend as we watched on in horror as the coronavirus tore through such a vivacious country. It spread quickly and shortly after, much of Europe was in some sort of lockdown.

These restrictions took us away from dojos, gyms and having any contact with training partners, coaches, friends and even family. Fortunately, we live in a time where we can reach out to one another with relative ease, be that on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any social media platform, which proved to be crucial.

Federations, coaches, clubs and professional athletes alike took to the various outlets to keep in contact, motivate, set challenges and educate through a time of isolation and it was clear how imperative this was, not only for the physical but the mental wellbeing of our members all over Europe and further afield.

We would like to see how you and your peers have demonstrated how you have been ‘Strong Together’ during this time of being apart and finally reuniting. Have you contributed to an online session? Volunteered in your community? However you have demonstrated any one of the judo values through this theme, we would love to hear about it!
