EUROPEAN JUDO FAMILY MOURNS ANDRE DE HEUS

The European Judo Family is sad to announce the loss of Andre de HEUS (67), former photographer of the European Judo Union, who died on November 14th 2023.

Dutch judo photographer Andre de Heus died at the age of 67 in a collision with a car whilst cycling, passing that evening in his hometown of Veenendaal.

De Heus was photographer for Dutch news agency ANP and JudoInside.com and lived in the same city as JudoInside founder Hans van Essen who he accompanied as photographer for the European Judo Union in 2011-2013. His thoroughness in lighting, creativity of finding the top shots and the time he took for making portraits of athletes and board members is typical for his work.

De Heus was active last week at the Dutch National Championships and was a former amateur judoka and passionate about martial arts. He followed judo since the 2009 World Championships in Rotterdam and witnessed various world level events such as 2011 Paris World Championships, European Championships, Veteran World and European Championships and photographed at European events in cities such as Paris, Istanbul and Glasgow for Continental Open.

De Heus recently pictured the whole Dutch team in advance of the European Championships in Montpellier.

He leaves a son.

Condolences from President Dr. László TÓTH and European Judo Union to the family and friends of Andre.
