European Club Championships - Champions League

SIMPLY CRAZY

The European Club Championships in Belgrade (SRB) could not have ended any better from a Serbian perspective. Home team OJK Belgrade beat Aris Judo Club (GRE) 3:0 in the men’s Champions League final. Filip DJINOVIC (+90), Alberto GAITERO MARTIN/ESP (-66) and Jorge CANO GARCIA (-73) scored the points for the heavy underdogs. Aleksandar NERANDZIC (-81) and Darko BRASNJOVIC (-90) did not play in the final. Last year’s finalists Red Star finished third.

“It’s just crazy. We are a very small club in Belgrade. I wouldn’t have thought it possible that we would leave the mat as winners here today. We can only thank the two legionnaires (from Spain). They made the difference with their victories. The fact that we beat Paris SG in the semi-final is a miracle,” beamed Darko Brasnjovic.

“We landed here two days ago and trained with the Serbs. We felt at home from the very first moment. And they all have a great competitive heart,” said Alberto Gaitero Martin, complimenting his Serbian team-mates. “We’ll definitely be back – OJK is our second home from now on,” said Jorge Cano Garcia.
Final standings, Champions League, men: 1) OJK Belgrade (SRB), 2) Aris Judo Club (GRE), 3) Paris Saint-Germain Judo (FRA), Red Star Belgrade (SRB).
