Ihar Maharau shows his experience with gold

30-Year old Ihar Makarau (BLR) took his first ever European title on Sunday beating 23-year old Barna Bor (HUN) in the heavyweight category. Makarov, 2004 Olympic Champion, won three bronze medals and silver in 2007, now threw Bor for ippon. Bor was good today, and won his first senior European medal. Makarau beat youngster Barna Bor in final fight with arm hug and trowing ko-soto-gake. Bor who is golden medalist from European U23 Championships in Zagreb and bronze medalist on Universiade in Belgrade and today won his first European Championships medal. This was first meeting of those two big judoka.

Janusz Wojnarowicz (POL) won bronze medal against Lithuanian Marius Paskevicius. In a very thight fight, Wojnarowicz was more active against his opponent and caused some penalties with his opponent, Wojnarowicz conceided two shido. A few moments later the referee gave another shido to both judoka. But Wojnarowicz controlled Paskevicius in osae-komi for 16 seconds which was enough for a decissive yuko.

Zviadi Khanjaliashvili (GEO) lost his fight against German Andreas Toelzer on hansoku-make due to passivity. Bronze for Toelzer.
