JUDO FESTIVAL 2020 CONCLUDED

JUDO FESTIVAL 2020 CONCLUDED

With a very different festival format seen this year, it has been a wonderful opportunity for those who may not have been able to travel to Croatia or attend all classes, to experience new aspects of judo or involve their children via our online support.

On the 6th of June, the Judo Festival Online 2020 began. We are currently living through a difficult time, and this has given those struggling with quarantine and lockdown restrictions, the ability to be involved in something within the judo community.

Sessions that would usually have been seen on the tatami on the coastal resort of Poreč in the scenic West of Croatia, were streamed live on the EJU website and have been made available on the YouTube platform in a series of playlists for our community to reflect on and use when they please. EJU Experts filmed from their own positions of quarantine and broadcasted to the wider judo family on a daily basis and provided education in the realms of children’s judo, mobility and Kata, as well as the international training sessions in cooperation with the Ichiban Judo Club and coaches across Europe.

When asked about the Judo Festival Online EJU President Sergey Soloveychik said;

It is very important to remain active and I am very happy to witness European Judo being united and adherent to judo values and ideals despite any challenges. And I am very thankful to all experts and EJU team for contributing to our online project.

Without these experts, this initiative could not have been as successful as it has proven to be. Each video has received hundreds of views over the past couple of weeks and has hopefully offered not just education but a healthy outlet for our judoka at home. A special thank you to the following individuals for their contributions in this project; Kirill Denisov (RUS), Sergio Oliveira (BRA); Vitaly Makarov (RUS), Joyce Malley (GBR); Joana Ramos (POR); David Larose (FRA); Marek Matuszek (SLO); Sebastian Marcinkiewicz (POL); Ludwig Paischer (AUT); Peter Smolders (BEL); Wolfgang Dax-Romswinkel (GER); Alexandr Jatskevitch (BEL); Denisa Deliu (ROU); Krzysztof Mackala (POL); Rok Draksic (SLO); Maurizio Calderini (ITA); Pedro Gonçalves (POR); Rui Coelho (ESP) and Nicolas Gilon (FRA).

With a taster of what is available at the Judo Festival, we hope to see some new faces in attendance in 2021.
