Passers-by at the Arena Center in Zagreb were pleasantly surprised today by the presentation of the Croatian Judo Federation on the eve of the European Championship which will be held from April 25 to 28. Visitors could not resist stopping at least for a moment to watch the performance of Larisa LIPOVAC dance group.
We prepared a combination of judo, break dance and acrobatics. Today we showed a smaller performance of what we will demonstrate during the opening ceremony of the European Championship, which is planned for Friday, April 26. It’s the first time we are doing a cross-over with judo but we hope it’s not the last time. Today, judo was demonstrated through dynamic elements of acrobatics and break dance which were performed by ten male and female dancers. – said renowned choreographer Lipovac.
Shortly after, the judokas of JK “Zagreačka judo škola” took over the tatami and showed numerous passers-by elements of judo such as falls, throws. The team also delivered a simulation of a judo fight in which Noa (6) and Bruno (7) decided to oppose larger and older club mates . Coach Matija JUG-DUJAKOVIĆ gave the younger competitors an additional boost with advice that ultimately enabled them to win.
National team members Tihea TOPOLOVEC (-57kg/AJK “Mladost” – Zagreb) and Petrunjela PAVIĆ (-78/JK “Dubrovnik 1966”) accompanied the President of the Croatian Judo Federation, Dr. Sanda ČORAK.
The 72nd edition of the European Judo Championship starts in five days with over 430 competitors from 47 different countries arriving in Croatia. At the same time, more than 80 media representatives will be joining to report on the tournament which is also part of the qualification towards the Olympic Games in Paris.
