Lauri Malinen helping hand in Haiti

Dr. Lauri Malinen from Finland, who is active in the medical commission of the European Judo Union, is currently in Haiti, helping the Finnish and German Red Cross cooperation for the Haiti Earthquake victims.

49-Year old Malinen works since 1998 for the EJU and was selected to chair the IJF Medical commission. The work of IJF medical commission will center around health of athletes and anti-doping work.

Malinen: “I am going to work in the Emergency Response Unit doing surgery of the victims. I believe the work is quite similar work than I did in the past in Bhuj, Kujarati in India as well as in Muzzafarabad in Pakistan. Only the circumstances are different as well as the temperatures. In India, the temperature was +55 degrees inside my tent at noon. In Kashmir it was below zero. In Haiti I guess about 30 degrees.“
“The surgery is mainly treatment of infected fractures, many kind of traumas sometimes probably cesarean sections. I know it better in a few days”, Malinen reports from Haiti.
