WAGNER ON TOP OF THE WORLD

World Ranked #1

WAGNER ON TOP OF THE WORLD
NAME: Anna-Maria WAGNER
COUNTRY: GERMANY
CATEGORY: -78kg
WORLD RANKING POINTS: 7753

Anna-Maria WAGNER wrapped up the season as the world rank leader in the -78kg category, proving once again that grit and grace are an unbeatable combination. This was not without its challenges, as relentless competition tested her every move. Adding to the intensity was the home-grown rivalry in the German -78kg scene, with Olympic dreams crushed and created. Facing top-level competition from her own teammates has only sharpened Wagner’s edge as she prepared for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she narrowly missed out on a podium finish.

During the robust road, she picked up a further 5 IJF World Tour medals, two of which she won. In May, she made her statement by winning the World Championships in Abu-Dhabi. Wagner’s rise to the top reflects not only talent but also resilience and passion. Here is her summary of the year;

My highlights this year were definitely my second World Championship title, the Grand Slam win in Paris and my European Championship medal. Of course, in addition, my ticket to the Olympic Games, and my special moment at the Olympic Games was carrying the flag for the German team. In recent years I have often finished second, so I’m happy to finish the year as number one!

Glückwunsch!
