A Choice That Matters: IPPONGEAR Joins the Adapted Judo Movement

There are moments in sport when results, rankings and medals quietly step aside, allowing something far greater to take centre stage. Moments that remind us why sport was never only about victory but about values. About people. About purpose.

Social responsibility is not an obligation, it is a choice. A choice that requires courage, consistency and a genuine commitment to stand for something greater than oneself, even when it is not the easiest path to take. It can be realised in many different ways: by fostering inclusion, supporting grassroots initiatives, investing in youth development, championing education and using one’s platform to create meaningful and lasting impact within communities. Make no mistake, it is neither a trend nor a passing fashion and it must never be mistaken for anything superficial; rather, it is a long-term commitment to values, integrity, and purposeful action.

Today, that choice has been made.

IPPONGEAR has taken a step that goes beyond business, beyond branding and even beyond partnership. They have chosen inclusion. They have chosen to share what they stand for not only with elite athletes standing on podiums but with every individual who steps onto the tatami, regardless of ability.

By officially extending their partnership with the European Judo Union and becoming one of the Adapted Judo Programme Partners, IPPONGEAR has aligned itself with a movement that is quietly transforming lives across Europe and beyond. A movement where the true meaning of judo is lived in its purest form.

This is not a symbolic gesture. It is a commitment in action.

From the launch of a dedicated Adapted Judo collection, to the support of EJU Adapted Judo events throughout the year, to providing vouchers that ease access to essential equipment and even donating a portion of their revenue to organisations caring for individuals with disabilities, each initiative speaks to a deeper understanding: that inclusion must be tangible, visible, and felt.

Yet, perhaps the most powerful element of this partnership cannot be measured in products or programmes.

It is found in moments.

In the unfiltered joy of a child stepping onto the tatami for the first time. In the quiet confidence that grows with every session. In the shared laughter, the effort, the connection. In a world that can often feel divided, Adapted Judo reminds us of something profoundly simple, that on the tatami, we are equal.

Stefan Kneitinger, CEO of IPPONGEAR, captured this sentiment with striking clarity:

“As a partner of Croatian Judo for many years, we noticed the development and potential of Adapted Judo programmes a long time ago. Seeing it come to life as an official EJU programme and spreading all over Europe and beyond was reason enough to support this group from our side as well.

Seeing the smiles and emotions in Adapted Judo kids’ faces is heart-warming, especially in a world that is becoming more and more cruel. For those kids, religion, country, looks do not matter. These kids are happy with what they have, especially in the moment and this is what shows on the tatami. These individuals are role models of their own and supporting projects like this simply feels like the right thing for us. Projects like Adapted Judo are a positive spark we need to spread.”

Perhaps that is the essence of it all.

A spark.

Small, yet powerful enough to ignite change. To inspire others. To remind us that the true strength of judo lies not in the force of a throw but in the depth of its values.

This partnership is not the end of a story but the beginning of something far greater. A shared journey between the European Judo Union and IPPONGEAR, built on the belief that judo belongs to everyone.

Why? Because in the end, the question is not whether we can make a difference.

It is whether we choose to.

Be like IPPONGEAR.

Make a difference today.
