Some hosts make history. Others create a legacy. Skopje did both. The summer of 2025 marked a remarkable chapter for judo in North Macedonia as the capital successfully welcomed some of the biggest events in the European calendar for the very first time, including the Cadet European Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). The exceptional organisational standards did not go unnoticed, with the North Macedonian Judo Federation receiving the prestigious EJU Best European Organiser of 2025 award.
However, 2025 was not a one-off success story. The journey continues.
This summer, Skopje once again opens its doors to the European judo family with the Skopje Junior European Cup from 08–09 August 2026, followed by the EJU Junior Training Camp from 10–12 August 2026. With young talents from across the continent preparing to gather in the city, another unforgettable chapter is ready to be written.
The President of the North Macedonian Judo Federation reflected on the remarkable progress of the sport:
“Judo has been developing in an excellent direction over the past year, following a path that we have been striving to achieve for many years. Membership is continuously growing, and public awareness of the benefits of judo is increasing. In general, judo is becoming one of the most popular sports in the Republic of North Macedonia.
We are working hard to maintain this positive momentum and to further raise awareness among young people about the values and beauty of judo. Significant progress has been made, and media attention towards judo is considerably greater than it was in previous years.”
