We speak often and pride ourselves on the fact that judo is more than sport; indeed it is the motto of the European judo Union. Today saw an act of selflessness and sportsmanship worthy of special note and completely in keeping with the spirit promoted by the EJU and the values so much a part of judo. Beka Gviniashvili displayed genuine care when his opponent sustained a foot injury during their contest. He helped the injured Krisztian Toth of Hungary to his feet and was there to assist Toth from the mat to receive medical treatment. We are pleased to recognise this display of sportsmanship from a young judoka and presented Beka Gviniashvili with a special Spirit of Judo Certificate in advance of the awarding ceremony U90kg.
