The senior European Judo Championships 2022 are staged in Sofia, Bulgaria, from Friday to Sunday. It’s the 70th edition of the EJU Prime Event and the first one organised by the Bulgarian Federation.

It’s a great pleasure to host 361 top-judoka from 40 countries. For us it will be a weekend to remember.

says Bulgarian Judo Federation President Rumen Stefanov STOILOV. The hosts have won a total of 28 medals (1 gold, 9 silver, 18 bronze) at European Championships so far. In the last 5 editions the clinched four silver medals. Bulgaria is hoping to secure the second European Championship title in EJU history, the first one since 1981, when Georgi PETROV won in Debrecen (HUN) the -78 category.

We have a total of 51 member federations. It was about time to come the first time to Bulgaria. The Armeec Arena is a great venue, the preparations ran smoothly. A big thank you to Rumen Stefanov Stoilov and his team. We are pleased to see, that a total of 7 title defenders and 7 world number ones are participating,

emphasizes interim EJU president Otto KNEITINGER.
