The International Symposium “Kano’s Legacy and the Challenges of the 21st Century: Judo, Youth and Education in a Changing World” invites researchers, academics and practitioners to contribute to a unique scientific exchange taking place at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, from 1–3 October 2026. Supported by the International Judo Federation, the symposium will explore how Jigoro Kano’s educational vision can respond to contemporary social, cultural and educational challenges.
Contributions from a broad range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences are welcome, including history, sociology, philosophy, education, psychology and sports studies. Paper and poster proposals may address topics such as judo pedagogy, youth development, values, inclusivity, peacebuilding, international relations and the wider role of judo in modern society.
Researchers are invited to submit their proposals by 30 July 2026. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process by the Scientific Committee, with selected contributions also considered for publication in the Arts and Sciences of Judo, the peer-reviewed journal of the International Judo Federation.
