The Prefect of Dubrovnik–Neretva County, Mr Blaž Pezo, today received a delegation from the International Judo Federation (IJF), the European Judo Union (EJU), and the Croatian Judo Federation (CJF), led by the President of the CJF, Dr Sanda Čorak.

“Welcome to another great event. It is a pleasure to host you in Dubrovnik, in Dubrovnik–Neretva County, which has a strong judo tradition. I was previously the President of the Sports Community of Dubrovnik–Neretva County, so I am very familiar with the results of judo and everything that happens around it. It is always an honour for us when athletes come here, when sporting events take place in our city, including this seminar, and we will always be ready to support such events,” Prefect Pezo said.

After the successful scientific conference held in cooperation with the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Kinesiology and the IJF Grand Prix Zagreb in mid-November, the Croatian Judo Federation continues its activities tirelessly, this time returning once again to Dubrovnik. President Dr Čorak is fully aware of the importance of such a seminar and added:

“Thank you very much, Prefect Pezo, and the Head of Department, for the reception. The Croatian Judo Federation organises competitions but we also like to organise events such as this, which support our work. We believe that the health of our athletes is a great responsibility and obligation, so it is extremely important for us to be able to host the best doctors and scientists in the field of sports medicine right here in Dubrovnik. This is a significant event for us and the more than 40 registered participants makes us extremely happy that we can discuss health, injury prevention and treatment protocols for our athletes. Judo is an excellent educational sport. In judo, we always devote time and attention to education and this is one of our main activities.”

“Thank you very much for this invitation. It is an honour to be here. As Sanda, a very active judo president, explained, this is a meeting of the Medical Seminar. We are meeting here to ensure that there are no injuries. I must emphasise that judo is the safest Olympic sport. We have reviewed the statistics and the number of injuries recorded in judo is the lowest of all sports at the Paris Olympics. Judo is not dangerous; it is rough but fast, and our job is to ensure that no one gets hurt. We have analysed the situations that caused injuries and addressed the refereeing commission to block such dangerous techniques,” concluded Envic Galea.
