EJU to Present Safe Fall–Safe Schools Project at EU-Safety Congress 2025

EJU Education Commissioner and professor-researcher at the University of Seville, Dr. Óscar del Castillo Andrés, will be presenting new development proposals for the Safe Fall–Safe Schools project at the prestigious EU-Safety Congress, taking place between 1-2 October 2025 in Heraklion, Greece.

Throughout the event, they will engage with researchers from around the world to discuss a presentation about teaching safe falling. The project addresses the critical issue of falls as a leading cause of injuries, particularly among vulnerable populations. By integrating safe-fall education strategies, biomechanics, and artificial intelligence, the initiative aims to design more effective and measurable training programmes.

According to Dr. Óscar del Castillo Andrés, fall stimulations were recorded using high-resolution camera systems. With the aid of models, precise segmentation of body dynamics was achieved, along with active motion tracking, which enabled the assessment of biomechanical parameters such as centre of mass displacement, angular momentum, and joint kinematics.

Machine learning models comparing pre- and post-intervention data revealed significant improvements in protective strategies, balance recovery, and impact-mitigation behaviours. The findings suggest that integrating practical education with advanced AI-based analysis provides a robust framework for developing effective fall-prevention programmes.
