France to Host Veteran Europeans in 2026

France is set to host the European Judo Championships Veterans 2026. The official flag handover ceremony took place this afternoon in Riga, marking the conclusion of the European Judo Championships Veterans 2025. During the ceremony, Émilie Andéol, Vice-President of France Judo and Rio 2016 Olympic Champion, proudly accepted the honour and received the EJU flag on behalf of France Judo.

Andeol shared her appreciation following the ceremony:

“It is a real pleasure for me to receive the flag today on behalf of France Judo. This moment is very meaningful for us, as we have a large and dedicated veterans’ delegation here. France hosting the Veteran European Championships in 2026 is a major event for our Federation, our veterans, and the entire judo community. This will follow another incredible milestone, as later this year, in November, we will also host the Veteran World Championships.

“This is my first time attending an event like this, and I must say, I am genuinely impressed. The atmosphere is wonderful, full of energy, passion, and camaraderie. It is a joy to see so many people, across a wide range of age groups, come together to practise and celebrate judo. The competition is prestigious, and the turnout is remarkable, with several divisions, including a separate ne-waza section. Today’s event, the mixed team competition, adds yet another layer of excitement. Honestly, I am truly moved by what I have seen.”

Veteran judo holds a prominent and vibrant place in France’s diverse martial arts scene. With its long-standing traditions and well-established support systems, France has become a leading centre for veteran judoka, athletes aged 30 and over, who remain active in both competitive and recreational arenas.
