Giuseppe Macrì Has Passed Away

The European Judo Union is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Italian Head of the Veteran Commission, Giuseppe Macrì.

Jean-Luc Bartoli, Member of the EJU Veteran Commission and Head of the France Judo Veteran Commission, shared his heartfelt words:

“Beppe, as we all called him among judo friends, was the one who, many years ago, made a fundamental contribution to the creation and development of the Veterans movement in Italy, as an athlete, a teacher, and later as an official. I am deeply saddened by his passing. I had known him for many years and shared a special bond with him. His absence will leave a huge void in the world of judo and in our hearts. I extend my sincerest condolences to his family, his students, and to all those, of whom there are many, who knew and respected him, both as a Master and as a person. With great esteem and affection, I know he will be greatly missed by us all.”

Giuseppe Matera, President of FIJLKAM Judo, also expressed his grief:

“Today, 14 August 2025, Master Benemerito 8th Dan Giuseppe Macrì, President of the National Veteran Commission, passed away. Master Macrì, through his tireless work over many years, made a fundamental contribution to the development of the Veterans movement in Italy. His impact on Italian judo was immense, as an athlete, winning medals at the World Veteran Championships and other international events; as a teacher, guiding countless students who went on to become excellent athletes and instructors; and finally as a federal director, where he created an environment full of passion and quality, thanks to his extraordinary human and technical qualities. Always active and dedicated, he accompanied Italian athletes to international events with great energy and kindness, becoming a true point of reference for everyone. The Veteran and wider judo community stand with his family and friends at this difficult time, knowing that Master Macrì’s invaluable work must now continue. FIJLKAM, deeply saddened by his passing, extends its sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and students.”

The European Judo Union extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and students of Giuseppe Macrì.
