Those who looked very closely at the European Cadet Championships in Odivelas could count Andreas Bernhofer among the winners. The IJF referee from Austria was happy about numerous entries and good marks from the EJU commissioners. This much should be revealed.
On weekdays, from Monday to Friday, he himself awards grades, as a university professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. More than 2,000 highly gifted artists from 70 nations are taught there. The 41-year-old is part of the teaching staff and teaches music education.
“The parallels between sport and music are amazing. Without training/exercise and ambition, you won’t get anywhere there or there. The world’s best judoka are virtuosos in their own way, just like pianists or singers,” says Andreas Bernhofer. “The artistic performance or the sporting competition shows who is really well prepared. It’s not much different for a referee.”
Andreas Bernhofer is currently one of the top 30 European judo referees. His students would be amazed…
