Hungarian Batizi finishes second at YOG

Hungary’s Barbara Batizi finished second at the category U44kg at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Batizi lost the final against Korean Bae Seul Bi who claimed the gold.

Upset by her loss, Batizi was consoled by her coaches before saying: “I’m really happy because of my silver medal but I’m also disappointed because I would have liked to be the champion.”

“I feel like flying,” said the winner afterwards. “I felt really good today before the match. I am going to get back home and show everyone my gold medal.”

The highlight of the day was an unexpected bronze medal for Cambodian Sothea Sam, who was originally going to miss the Youth Olympics to concentrate on her studies.

Sam launched a blitz attack on Bulgarian Yoana Damyanova in the repechage final and triumphed with an ippon just 24 seconds into the bout.

In the second bronze medal match, Vita Valnova (BLR) overcame Lesly Cano (PER).

“I’m happy for bronze. I didn’t expect anything like this,” said Valnova.
