The IJF has published on its home page, the list of qualified athletes for the olympic Games (Direct qualification and Continental quota). With 116 countries qualified, a new record has been established. . In total 40 European nations have at least one qualified athletes. Europe is leading, Africa has 24 qualified nations, Asia 21, Pan America 21 and Oceania 10.
France is Europe’s most successful nation qualifiying directly for each of the 14 categories. Many nations benefit from the 25 EJU quota awarded to the best ranked athlete on the World Ranking in their nation, outside the direct qualification places. (clean top 22 for men and clean top 14 for women)
Some nations only qualified because of those quota such as Estonia, Iceland, Bulgaria, Luxembourg and Ireland.
Russia qualified 12 athletes directly. Host nation Great Britain can nominate 14 candidates, one for each category.
Soon the IJF will also publish the list of 20 Wild Cards.
