IN MEMORIAM: REMEMBERING GUY RUELLE, A TITAN OF JUDO

The judo world mourns the loss of one of its most revered figures, Guy RUELLE, former international referee and coach of the San Marino Judo Federation. Ruelle, a legendary judoka and influential figure in the global judo community, passed away at the age of 69. His legacy encompasses a lifetime dedicated to the art, philosophy, and promotion of judo.

Mr. Ruelle was a visionary leader and educator, serving as a coach, mentor, and advocate for judo via it’s values such as respect, modesty, and courage. His teachings influenced generations of judoka, instilling in them not only the physical techniques of the sport but also the ethical principles that lie at its core.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr Ruelle remained deeply committed to the development of judo at all levels. He played a pivotal role in the growth of the sport, serving in various administrative capacities under the title of ‘technical director’ of the San Marino Judo Federation, bestowing the formulation of judo’s rules and regulations.  

Beyond his contributions to the sport, Mr. Ruelle will be remembered for his warmth, humility, and unwavering commitment to excellence. He touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift future generations of judoka.

As the judo community reflects on Mr Ruelle’s remarkable life and legacy, we are reminded of the profound impact that one individual can have on a sport and its participants. His spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. 

In honouring the memory of Guy Ruelle, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of judo – mutual respect, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. In many hearts’, Mr. Ruelle will remain a guiding light not only in San Marino but around the world. 

The European Judo Union sends sincere condolences to Guy Ruelle’s friends and family as well as to the San Marino Judo Federation.
