The European Judo Union (EJU) is preparing to convene in Malta for its triannual Executive Committee meeting. The high-level gathering will serve as the strategic launchpad for the 2026 judo season, focusing on continental development and the presentation of the Union’s latest financial accounts.
Ahead of the official start of the executive sessions, the senior delegation met with Dr Clifton Grima, the Maltese Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation. The visit underscored Malta’s growing importance within the international judo community. The delegation included Dr Tóth László, EJU President; Mr Envic Galea, EJU General Treasurer and President of the Malta Judo Federation (MJF); and Mrs Louisa Agius Galea, Executive Committee Member of the International Judo Federation and General Secretary of the MJF.

During the discussion with Minister Grima, the delegation highlighted that while Malta is a small nation, it has consistently punched above its weight on the world stage. Malta has successfully hosted numerous high-calibre events and remains remarkably active in international judo, contributing significant expertise at both the competitive and administrative levels.
“We are honoured by the warm welcome from Minister Grima,” stated EJU President Dr Tóth László. “The transition of our Treasury to Malta in 2025 has already yielded incredible results in terms of professional rigour. With the government’s commitment to hosting upcoming events, the future of Maltese judo is bright.”
The meeting also reflected the strong cooperation between national authorities and the judo movement, reinforcing Malta’s role as an important partner in the continued development of the sport across Europe. As the Executive Committee prepares to begin its sessions, the discussions in Valletta set a positive tone for the decisions and initiatives that will shape the direction of European judo throughout the coming year.
