Monaco’s Magic Steals the Spotlight at GSSE 2025

Compact in scale yet brimming with excitement and energy, the individual judo event at the Games of the Small States of Europe proved to be a true highlight of the competition. Eight out of the nine participating member states were represented, each vying for this prestigious biennial title. Prince Félix of Luxembourg was also present to witness the outstanding judo event and to celebrate his team’s success.

Monaco topped the overall medal table, securing three golds, two silvers, and one bronze. Cyprus followed in second place with a tally of three golds, one silver, and five bronzes, while Montenegro rounded out the top three with two golds, five silvers, and two bronzes. Now, let’s hear from some of the athletes behind these remarkable achievements.

Marvin Gadeau (MON): “I am really happy, this is my first time winning this tournament, it means a lot. I want to thank all my coaches who have supported me. The toughest fight was against the athlete from Montenegro. He was very strong physically at the start and really surprised me, but I was in good shape today and managed to turn it into something positive.”

Anetta Mosr (LUX): “I’m feeling amazed, I still can’t quite believe that I have finally won the gold medal for Luxembourg. The final was tough, but honestly, the fight before it was just as challenging because I was really stressed mentally but then I reminded myself I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I went into the final with a clearer mind, and I did it. In the final, I kept glancing at the clock, just hoping it would end but in the end, I managed to stay focused and hold on until the very last second. Receiving my medal from Prince Félix of Luxembourg was [she pauses] breathtaking.”

Emil Sinanovic (MNE): “I feel great, I won two matches today. For the past two years, I have taken silver, but today I finally won gold. I’m very happy. This is just the beginning, the challenge now is to keep winning and to earn even more medals.”

Marina Azinou (CYP): “I am really proud and feel truly blessed to have people who support me and help me with my training. I hope my country takes first place in the team event, and yes, I think all the hard work has finally paid off.”
