MONTENEGRO TO HOST U23 EUROPEANS IN 2017

We are delighted to announce that the 2017 U23 European Judo Championships will be hosted in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Following protocol, the official flag handover was conducted on Saturday, the 12th of November 2016. The President of the Montenegro Judo Federation, Mr. Dragomir Becanovic expressed his thoughts after the official ceremony,

“We hosted Cadet European Judo Championships in Bar in 2012, but at senior level it is the first event for our country and we are proud that this event will take place in our capital, Podgorica.”

“We have a group of high talented judoka in the U23 age group. Our biggest hope is Danilo Pantic (-100kg) who won the Junior European Championships 2015 in Oberwart. We hope to bring 3-5 of these young athletes to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The U23 European Judo Championships should help us to reach this goal.”

To conclude, Mr. Becanovic added, “Judo is popular at the moment in our country but we want to get more attention. The venue in Podgorica has a capacity of 5000 people and we believe that we can get it full because the society of Montenegro is fanatic for sports. This awareness should help us to improve judo in Montenegro.”
