ON THE ROOF OF THE WORLD

ON THE ROOF OF THE WORLD

She did it – from sea level in North-India all the way per mountain bike to Nepal and then climbing the highest mountain of the world. Austrian judoka Sabrina FILZMOSER made it on Sunday afternoon to the top of Mount Everest (8.848 m) and could live a long-cherished dream. In the meantime, by Tuesday, she is back in the Everest Base Camp, safe and sound. “Those were for sure the most difficult days of my life. I was at the summit, with my judo belt and the Judo-for-Peace mascot in my hand. It is too good to be true, I eventually reached my goal.” Adding: “I have promissed by mother to return with all fingers & toes and with a clear head. It worked out fine.”

The 2-time European champion and 4-time Olympian was on the road since the beginning of March, biking through the north parts of India with temperatures around 40 degrees (in the shadow) and overcoming more than 10.000 altimeters, In April the 41 year-old began the acclimatization period in the Everest area (at the Base Camp at 5.364 m). “

“On my expedition the main focus was to meet as many international judoka as possible, to reach the summit was the final chapter only. I am more than happy, that it worked out fine. I can’t wait to be back in training in a well tempered dojo.”
