POLISH WOMEN’S TEAM GRAB SURPRISE SILVER IN ASTANA

Team Russia – bronze medal

Ksenia Chibisova (RUS)

“Of course we are happy and joyful! As far as I remember, it’s been a long time since a women’s Russian team did took a medal at the Worlds, we had always been so close to a medal at the World and European championships but the medal had always escaped us. So this bronze means a lot to us! The coaches and the team are very happy, and I guess we deserve it.”

“Our secret is the team spirit. We discussed amongst ourselves before the fight and we thought that we had very little chance against the French. But everyone was very focused and well prepared.”

Team Poland – silver medal

Arleta Podolak and Karolina Pienkowska (POL)

“Of course we are happy about silver. We’ve won a medal at the world championships and this is amazing. After the bronze medal at the European Championships this is the best result for Poland.”

“One part on this success is our coach. She was silver medalist at the Olympic Games in 1996 and she helps us a lot with her experience.”

Team Germany – bronze medal

Luise Malzahn (GER)

“In the individuals we got only one medal. In this case this bronze medal was really important for our team.”

“We are such a great team the atmosphere is amazing and I am happy that I could win the deciding contest.”

“The last fight was really special. She was so much heavier than I was but I knew that I could beat her. I fought until the last second and I got a small chance which in the end I managed to take.”

“Sometimes I hate my team mates! I always seem to come to the mat with the match undecided and it’s up to me to take the ultimate fight.”

Team Georgia – bronze medal

Varlam Liparteliani (GEO)

“We Georgians always want to win gold. But today Japan was quite strong and had some lucky moments but I think the bronze medal is pretty ok for our team.”
