The European Judo Union in collaboration with the Latvia Judo Federation is proud to host the Kodokan Kata Seminar and Examination, set to take place from 28–30 May 2025 at the International Exhibition Centre BT 1 in Riga. This prestigious event promises an unparalleled opportunity for judoka to deepen their knowledge and practice of traditional and modern kata under the guidance of world-class experts from the Kodokan Institute in Tokyo as well as experts from Europe.
About the Seminar
Bringing together expertise from the heart of judo’s origins, the seminar will cover a range of kata disciplines, including:
- Koshiki-no-Kata
- Itsutsu-no-Kata
- Nage-no-Kata
- Katame-no-Kata
- Ju-no-Kata
- Kodokan Goshin-Jutsu
Sessions will take place across three intensive days and will feature both instruction and demonstration components. Accreditation will begin on Tuesday, 27 May from 18:00 to 19:00 at the Bellevue Park Hotel Riga.

Participation in the Kodokan Seminar is highly recommended for EJU Kata Judges, particularly those seeking qualification or certification in Koshiki-no-Kata and Itsutsu-no-Kata.
Participation Requirements
- For Koshiki-no-Kata and Itsutsu-no-Kata, participants must hold at least 1st Dan.
- For Nage-no-Kata, Katame-no-Kata, Ju-no-Kata, and Kodokan Goshin-Jutsu, the minimum grade is 3rd Kyu.
The inscription fee is €100 per participant.
Please note:
- Only inscriptions through National Federations will be accepted.
- There is no limit to the number of participants per National Federation.
- An inscription form is attached with the seminar documentation.
- Hotel bookings should be made using the Kata EC outlines.
