Review EJU Continental Cup Celje (SLO)

Urska Zolnir (SLO) set an unbelievable record of five historic wins in a row at the EJU Continental Cup Celje. The 2009 European champion has won the tournament five times in a row now since 2005, all U63kg.
By beating Russian Marta Labazina, Zolnir didn’t lose since the 28th of February 2009 when she lost in the final of the World Cup in Prague to Ayumi Tanimoto (JPN).

Zolnir’s compatriot Lucija Polavder (SLO) won for the third time in Celje. She also won in 2005 and 2007 in the plus category.
Saso Jereb won the third Slovenian gold medal this weekend. Under 73 kg he beat Adam Brysz (POL). Under 81kg Aljaz Sedej (SLO) won for the 2nd time in Celje. He also finished first in 2006. On Sunday he defeated Srdan Mrvaljevic (MNT).

Rasa Sraka won the U70kg weight class. The former European champion (2003) won for the first time in Celje and seems to be on her way back, just in time for the Worlds. In May she won the IJF Grand Prix in Tunis as well.

Under 57kg Dutch Dani Libosan won her second tournament in a row. The 24th of May she won the EJU Acropolis Tournament in Loutraki and last Saturday she beat the talented Tina Trstenjak (SLO) who recently won the EJU U20 tournament in Leibnitz but couldn’t resist the experience of the 28-year old 6 times Dutch champion Dani Libosan.
Dutch heavyweight champion Luuk Verbij won the plus category. He’s making a good progress this year taking the Dutch title last year and the Antwerp Open, silver medals in Visé and Warsaw this year.

More than 420 competitors from 32 Nations competed in Slovenia.
