Professional athletes rarely get the chance to rest, and this was proven once again in Kaunas during the Junior Training Camp held from 27-29 April. Many judoka filled the President Valdas Adamkus Sports Arena, all eager to train and improve, despite their exhaustion after the Kaunas Junior European Cup.

Upon seeing the large crowd of athletes, former judoka, Olympian and current president of the Lithuanian Judo Federation, Sandra Jablonskytė, was pleasantly surprised.
“When I see so many young and promising judoka in my hometown, Kaunas, I feel deeply moved. I remember what it feels like to be in their shoes, fight hard but dream even bigger. I feel very proud of every single athlete who showed up at the training camp.”
Even though injuries are unavoidable in professional sport, the camp is going smoothly, without any major incidents.
“Injuries don’t only affect an athlete’s physical health but their emotional well-being as well. You can be very successful and talented but a serious injury can ruin your career. Injuries are probably the biggest fear of most judo fighters.”

It is clear that this year more athletes chose to participate in the Kaunas EJU Junior Training Camp than in any previous year.
“I feel great gratitude towards every single athlete and coach who chose to come to Kaunas this year. It is wonderful to see that each year this European Cup destination becomes more popular.”
The growing number of participants and the positive atmosphere in Kaunas once again proved that judo continues to develop strongly in Lithuania. All EJU events not only help athletes improve their skills but also build a sense of community and shared ambition.
