The two-day Sarajevo Judo Hopes 2026 tournament got underway today in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing together the next generation of European talent. Part of the European Judo Tour and organised by the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the event has attracted 574 young judoka from 21 nations.

Across the weekend, 366 boys and 208 girls will take to the tatami at Arena Hills, each eager to make their mark on the international stage.
Among the promising U14 and U16 athletes are 112 representatives from the host nation, who delivered an impressive opening day performance. Their results not only showcased quality but also underlined the bright future and growing strength of judo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The opening ceremony welcomed distinguished guests, with addresses from Ognjen Pavlović, President of the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Branislav Crnogorac, Development Director of the European Judo Union. Both extended a warm welcome to participants and expressed their appreciation to all those involved in bringing the event to life.
“Sarajevo is a city that symbolises hospitality as well as top-level sport. Today, this city beats to the rhythm of judo, and we are especially grateful to the European Judo Union, as well as to all levels of government for their support in organising such an important event,” said Pavlović.

Ahead of the competition, a Kodokan technical seminar was held, led by Kodokan expert and three-time world champion Misato Nakamura, supported by European star Aleksandar Kukolj and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s own Larisa Cerić. The session provided a valuable learning platform for young athletes and coaches alike.
In recognition of their contribution to the development of judo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nakamura and Kukolj were presented with commemorative gifts by the organisers.
The competition continues on Sunday from 09:00, with the preliminary rounds set to resume the action in Sarajevo. Watch live via Sarajevo Judo Hopes Tournament 2026.
