The 21 year-old Assunta ‘Susa’ SCUTTO landed on the senior scene following a number of major junior successes in 2021 with a win in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. In the following year, Scutto succeeded to take her first senior world medal, a bronze in Tashkent, followed by an equally impressive IJF Masters medal in Jerusalem.
This year however, she truly established herself as the front runner, and in the end, the world ranked number one of the -48kg category. Yet another world medal was added to her collection in the Doha world championships, as well as a second Masters medal, but her ability to clean up in the grand slam events was truly stunning. Scutto scored a hat-trick, claiming Kazakhstan, Baku and Abu Dhabi this year.
As such a young athlete, we can only imagine what Scutto can achieve in her career, but of course 2024 brings about new challenges, and her debut in the Olympic Games.
