SPOTLIGHT ON PARIS

Paris Grand Slam 2019

SPOTLIGHT ON PARIS

With an invigorating atmosphere, the French and international fans and spectators never fail to provide the best environment in order for the athletes to steal the show. Although there are many renowned judoka competing, the home crowd will be there to carry their French team to success, the heavier weight classes bringing the highest ranked athletes.

Among the home nation female competitors; last years bronze medallist in the -52kg category, Astride GNETO; triple World Champion in the -63kg category, Clarisse AGBEGNENOU will be looking to retain her Paris title. World silver medallist, Marie Eve GAHIE in the -70kg took a bronze last year losing out to eventual champion, Sally CONWAY (GBR) and won’t be making the same mistake twice. Close in ranking and both medallists in the -78kg category last year are Madeleine MALONGA and Audrey TCHEUEMO, though MALONGA sits ahead in the ranking, TCHEUMEO was the one on top in Paris 2018, taking the title.

For the men; World bronze medallist, Axel CLERGET will compete and also look to improve on the bronze he attained in 2018 in the -90kg category, he is followed by Olympic medallist and Paris 2018 bronze medallist Cyrille MARET and the Tel Aviv Grand Prix Champion, Alexandre IDDIR in the -100kg category.

With such a wealth of talent, the Paris Grand Slam is set to be another tremendous event. To watch live, follow IJF.org.
