The first meeting of the newly elected EJU Executive Committee right after the Extraordinary Congress in Vienna on 18th of June was more or less a first meet and greet. On the last weekend the 16 EC members came together for a two-day workshop in the Austrian mountain village Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The most urgent topic was the treatment of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the summer EJU events. The decision was clear. “We agreed with the Russian Judo Federation, that there will be no Russian/Belarusian participation at the upcoming European Judo Union events, neither on seniors nor on youth and junior level”, emphasizes EJU President László TOTH.
Other topics discussed during the last two days:
- Veterans and Kata events will be organised from now on by the EJU Sports Section (so far it was done by the Education Department). Other administrative changes include the closure of some commissions in the educational sector, a new Event Commission in order to simplify structures and reduce costs. The Refereeing Commission will be operating independently from now on.
- The newly regrouped Educational team – lead by Executive Committee member Sergei ASCHWANDEN – will organise a conference for all European Judo Federations featuring best practise examples (such as Judo at School).
- The closure of the Moscow office has been implemented, all financial operations are now handled by the EJU Head Office in Vienna.
- The next EC meeting is supposed to take place mid of September in Istanbul (TUR). Main focus will be a new educational concept, the finalization of the Host City agreement for the Senior European Championships 2024 and a first draft of the 2023 EJU event calendar.
