The Podgorica Senior European Cup 2025 was more than just a judo competition, it served as a crucial preparatory event for Montenegro’s countdown towards the senior European Judo Championships later this year. The tournament provided an excellent platform for competitors to test their skills while also allowing officials to evaluate the Morača M-tel Sports Center, the designated venue for the upcoming continental showdown.
A key figure in attendance was Dr. Tóth László, President of the European Judo Union, who visited Podgorica to witness firsthand the city’s readiness to host Europe’s best judoka in April. His presence reinforced the importance of the event and highlighted Montenegro’s growing role on the international judo stage.


Speaking about the preparations, Mr. Jovica Rečević, President of the Montenegrin Judo Federation, shared his optimism: “Hosting the EJU’s flagship event is a momentous occasion for our federation and the sport in our country. There is a lot of work goes into managing such an event and it was an honour to have EJU delegates, especially President Dr Toth Laszlo visiting us past weekend. We continue the work and looking forward to welcoming everyone in April.”
The tournament not only showcased top-tier athletic performances but also allowed organisers to fine-tune logistics ahead of the larger championship. Dr. Tóth commended the efforts made so far, emphasising the importance of hosting such high-level competitions in new locations: “It is inspiring to see the commitment and enthusiasm here in Podgorica. Montenegro has embraced judo with great energy and I am confident that the European Championships will be an outstanding event that brings athletes and fans together in celebration of our sport. We must not forget about the Kids Camp too, which the local organisers also preparing to host in Budva.”
With just weeks to go before the senior European Championships kick off, excitement is building. Montenegro stands ready to deliver a top-tier sporting spectacle, welcoming Europe’s elite judoka for an unforgettable competition.
