Inspired by the Children Kata Festival & Kata Seminar held in Ljubljana in 2024 under the auspices of the European Judo Union (EJU) and led by Dr. Slaviša Bradić, EJU Head of Kata Commission, Judo Golovec wrote a new chapter on 25 October by organising its very first Judo Golovec Kata Tournament.
The tournament was held alongside the traditional tournament for kids, Autumn in Golovec, and proved that interest in judo kata in Slovenia is growing rapidly. On the tatami, 33 pairs from five clubs showcased their skills, from children to senior categories. Despite the young age of many participants, their performances impressed with focus, and genuine judo spirit: respect, calmness, and accuracy.
Dr. Nuša Lampe, CEO of Judo Golovec, expressed her satisfaction:
“I’m delighted to see that the knowledge and inspiration gained at the Children Kata Festival & Kata Seminar in 2024 are already being put into practice. The young judoka have shown they understand the essence of kata, precision, respect, and cooperation. The first tournament was truly inspiring. We will continue in November at Judo Polyteam and in December at our New Year’s Kagami Biraki tournament.”
Robert Kojc, President of the Slovenian Institute for Judo and Judo Kata Association, also highlighted the significance of the event:
“This tournament is an important milestone for Slovenian judo. I’m pleased that, through our joint efforts, we have created an event that unites young people and allows them to develop technical knowledge and respect for judo tradition through kata. This is just the beginning of a journey we will continue with new tournaments.”
The First Kata Tournament in Golovec was filled with smiles, respect, and genuine competitive spirit. It showed that judo kata are not reserved only for masters, children and young people can also practice, understand, and enjoy them.
